Bringing Life to Literature…

The SBSM Independent School in Lenasia collaborated with Dr Zaheera Jina Asvat of Jozis’ Books and Blogs for the third year on Sunday, the 28th July 2019. Once again, Jozi’sBBF and SBSM pulled out all the stops and had a fantastically exciting line up.

Dr Elinor Sisulu opened the festival and Fred Khumalo was honoured for his vast contribution to literature in South Africa and beyond.

Literary lovers were treated to the theatre production of Whistle Stop written by award winning author and actress Ameera Patel, which was a Winner of the Standard Bank Silver Ovation Award and a PANSA New Writer’s Award. Whistle Stop is a love story like no other and took the audience on a rollercoaster ride through past, present, and future possible relationship dilemmas.

The skill of taking the perfect photo was taught by world famous photographer Xavier Saer. There was also a self-healing session titled Forgiving and Forgetting Starts with you, with award winning author Raashida Khan and Shahista Thokan. For the writers who wanted to know the process of writing and publishing, Haaroon Wadee and Khalida Moosa unpacked all things writing with author Fiona Snyckers, author Zaid Ismail, publisher Sarah Mc Gregor and Mukhtar Dharsey.

For those who want to write children literature, artist Shameema Dharsey described the process of creating a book, concerning illustration, studies, hints and tips.

There really was something for everyone.
