MESSAGE FROM THE PREFECT LIAISON OFFICER

The introduction of prefects at SBSM started in 2012 as we saw the need to offer Primary school learners the opportunity to serve their school, and to develop and practise leadership skills. Prefects are selected in their grade 6 year to become prefects in grade 7.

Prefects induction ceremony takes place at the beginning of the grade 7 year in a school assembly. Prefects are given badges.

Over the years leadership skills have been developed through participating in outreach projects, tasks/activities at school and helping the broader community.

Outreach projects undertaken on by the prefects

  1. Stationary collection
  2. Can food collection
  3. Toy Drive
  4. Distribution of Easter egg hampers.
  5. Slipper day.

It is better to lead from behind and to put others in front, especially when you celebrate victory when nice things occur. You take the front line when there is danger. Then people will appreciate your leadership.

RCL LIAISON OFFICERS’ MESSAGE – TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

It has been an honour to work with the RCL executive team this year. From our very first meeting, we could feel the drive and passion from these learners. Our main goal is to serve our learners and the community as that is essentially what makes us human. At SBSM, we strive to inculcate that into our learners.

We created our honour pledge based on what we expected from ourselves and that became our foundation. From the onset, we pledged to ensure that:

All learners have an understanding of their rights and privileges, responsibilities and duties in order to build and maintain a healthy attitude throughout the learner body.

All RCL members act at all times in the best interest of the learners of the school.

All learners develop and foster a positive relationship with all stakeholders of SBSM in the best interest of all concerned.

We promised to:

  • BE PROUD
  • BE TOUGH
  • BE STRONG and
  • BE DETERMINED

In keeping with the value of SEVA, the RCL has participated in and will continue to participate in many outreach programmes.

We would like to place on record our sincerest gratitude to you, the parent community for their on-going support. We can only be successful because of it.

Some of the many projects we participated in thus far include the Toy Drive in association with Eastwave Radio Station and Cultural events such as Holi and Maha Shivratri. We have also honoured the memories of the late Mr Joost van de Westhuizen and Mr Ahmed Kathrada.

Yours in education
Ms J. Devnath
